Project Overview

Global Games is a fun and informative way to teach kids about world cultures through a variety of skill-based toys from different countries. First, the presenter will demonstrate and teach the history behind each of the toys. Then the kids get to try them out as the presenter facilitates with hands-on teaching and leading group games. Finally, everyone gets a chance to show off what they've learned through mini performances of their own. Global Games helps kids develop their own skills and build self-esteem while learning the fun side of world cultures.

Proposed Measurable Outcome(s)

Children and families who attend this event will learn about other cultures, and will have the opportunity to learn a new skill by playing games that are popular in other cultures. Anecdotal responses will be collected.

Measurable Outcome(s)

The families who attended really enjoyed this program. Several times while the presenter was demonstrating how to use the toys from around the world and talking about their history, the kids who were listening exclaimed, "That is so cool!" Some of the kids said they were amazed that such simple toys could be so much fun. Several children had the opportunity to get up during the presentation and help demonstrate how the toys were used. One fun part about the program was that one of the children who attended has family in Japan, and was familiar with a toy from Japan that the presenter talked about. At the end, everyone got some time to try out the toys that they had just learned about. Even the parents and grandparents who brought the children wanted an opportunity to try them out. Overall, it was a successful program and everyone who attended learned a lot.
