It's a Road to Stardom: Southern Minnesota's Highway 14 and Three Great Children's Authors - Kathleen Baxter
It's a Road to Stardom: Southern Minnesota's Highway 14 and Three Great Children's Book Creators who Grew Up Along It. Maud Hart Lovelace, who immortalized her hometown, Mankato, in her beloved Betsy-Tacy series, based on her own life, New Ulm's Wanda Gag, creator of Millions of Cats- the oldest American picture book still in print- as well as several other classics, and the literary rock star Laura Ingalls Wilder, who lived in Walnut Grove and wrote On the Banks of Plum Creek about her time there, have one thing in common--Highway 14 (which has signs on it calling it the Laura Ingalls Wilder Highway) , where all of these towns were located. Kathleen Baxter, a native of Walnut Grove, is a huge fan of all three, and thinks they are not getting as much attention as they deserve. In this fun and fast-paced talk, filled with photos and information about these three great writers.
