Music of the Mississippi - Everett Smithson
Music of the Mississippi is a blues program featuring zydeco, texmex, old country, soul, Hill Billy and hoedown music styles associated with various communities along the Mississippi River. Stories about the songs and instruments will be featured throughout the performance, and audience participation will be encouraged. Following the performance, harmonica lessons will be given to anyone who would like to learn basic harmonica songs. The lessons are sponsored by the Minnesota Blues Society.

The audience will have an introduction to Mississippi blues featuring many musical styles. They will hear stories behind the songs and instruments, getting a deeper understanding of Mississippi blues and the cultures that embrace the music. Those who choose to will receive a harmonica and lesson following the performance. Participant evaluations and anecdotal responses will be collected.
The majority of attendees said that they enjoyed the music. The audience was introduced to numerous musical styles and learned that they can enjoy many programs like this sponsored by the library.
