Project Overview

James Wedgwood will be at the elementary school to present his comedy and ventriloquism program for children and adults alike. He will not only use his talents to entertain but to also introduce the audience to different talents associated with stagecraft, along with a segment of the history and art of ventriloquism. Ventriloquism is a form of stagecraft in which an actor or actress, with proper control of their vocal tract, changes their timbre, pitch and tone to essentially "changes" their voice and make it appear as if that voice is coming from somewhere else. A part of James's act will bring the audience into the performance, and will encourage children to practice these theater skills "on spot" learning to say a few simple works without moving their lips.

Additionally, children and adults will change their perception of ventriloquism and puppetry as not just forms of entertainment, but also as art forms. They will also have gained knowledge of how this art form has changed and has been used throughout history. Children may also be inspired to engage in performing arts at home, and possibly in their community. Anecdotal responses will be collected.

Measurable Outcome(s)

The feedback from these events was so very positive and everyone that attended left with a feeling that they had really experienced a rare art form. Mr. Wedgwood engaged the audience so completely that every age enjoyed the performance. His shows are just delightful was repeated by many attendees.
