Project Overview

The Fulda Memorial Library and Slayton Public Library are working together on a county-wide program called One County, One Book 2018. The book chosen for this year's program is "Dark side of the loon: where history meets mystery". This title is an anthology of short mystery stories written by Minnesota authors in the Twin Cities Sisters in Crime group. The libraries will purchase books to hand out free to the public to be read during September and October. The program will end with a panel discussion with several members of the Twin Cities Sisters in Crime.

Proposed Measurable Outcome(s)

To build community through a shared common goal. To introduce a new type of genre to readers in our county. To reach people living in Murray County communities that may not be regular library patrons. To share stories about the history of Minnesota to community members through the chosen book and the events. Participant evaluations and anecdotal responses will be collected.

Measurable Outcome(s)

Both libraries purchased a number of books to give away and all of them were taken and either returned to the library to give to another person, or passed along to family or a friend. We heard a lot of comments about the short stories in the chosen book and their relationship to actual historical events in Minnesota. Six of the authors from the book and the Twin Cities Sisters in Crime made up the author panel. They shared stories, answered questions, signed and sold their books and chatted with audience members.
