Those attending will learn about local and state soldiers who lost their lives in World War II. Anecdotal and written responses will be collected.
Many who attended appreciated the opportunity to visit with the knowledgeable authors and learn more about the places and towns that they had researched for their book. Attendees learned about the devastating and lasting effects that World War II left on so many of the smallest towns in Minnesota where one loss of life reverberated loudly. Many of the patrons were surprised at how much impact Minnesota had upon the war effort, as they felt that our state was far removed from the coast and therefore from the war. "I am intrigued by the value of our farm boys as enlisted soldiers," one mentioned. One of the younger audience members spoke at length about the information that the Jill and Deane Johnson provided as to how to research military records on the internet. All participants appreciated the added element of the slide show that accompanied the presentation.
