Proposed Measurable Outcome(s)

1. The audience will have an introduction to Mississippi Blues, featuring the musical styles of Zydeco, Texmex, blues, old country, soul, and hillbilly hoedowns.
2. We will hear stories behind the songs and instruments throughout the performance, giving us a deeper understanding of Mississippi Blues and the cultures that embrace this style of music.
3. Following the performance, participants will be allowed to take free harmonica lessons, sponsored by the Minnesota Blues Society, introducing them to a musical instrument not often played in our area.
4. Participants will see the library as a place that promotes musical programs that are fun and engaging for the entire family.
Participant evaluations and anecdotal responses will be collected.

Measurable Outcome(s)

Attendees learned about different styles of music along the Mississippi River, including the history behind some of the instruments. Attendees also participated in the performance by playing egg shakers and dancing.
Following the performance, students were given a harmonica to keep, as well as harmonica lessons and a diagram to take home. This program attracted ages from three years old to 80+ years old. Interest in the music spanned generations, as did the interest in the harmonica lessons. We had a great deal of positive feedback from the surveys: "Library staff doing a good job. Thanks to them, and Minnesota Arts, History, and Culture. "Loved it so much! "Really great - a fun idea to teach kids about a unique musical instrument. "Thank you for having such fun events! "Loved it. Great for the entire family!"
