Many antiques reveal a glimpse into the past, such as advertising items from local businesses, every day tools and implements from a bygone era, cherished items that have been handed from generation to generation, toys, games, and other beloved items that to some are long forgotten and others, never known. It is expected that Mr. Moran's knowledge imparted to the audiences about these items will enlighten and educate them about times and people from the past. Perhaps some will be challenged to connect with their grandparents and find out the stories and history behind their family heirlooms. Others may be prompted to explore second hand and antique stores in search of old gems after gaining appreciation for antiques. An understanding of what yesteryear life was like with everyday pieces and tools will be gained. Patron evaluations and anecdotal responses will be collected.
Mark Moran had a tale to tell about every piece of antiquity that he appraised. The depth of his knowledge on the historic use and value, intrinsic or actual, was impressive. "Old does not equal value", "This was so valuable to be able to see what items have financial value versus the ones that are kept for purely sentimental reasons" Many people were excited to learn they could do their own price comparisons using the website that Mark Moran provided. Attendees learned about the expansive world of antiques and appraisals. They learned tips about what to look for and good websites to use while doing research. "One person's trash is another's treasure". The value of something depends a lot on perspective.
