Middle Maniacs - Canvas Painting with Kate
Kate is a local middle school art teacher and she will lead our Middle Maniacs (tweens) in a canvas painting. All participants will paint the same object by listening to Kate's directions. Basic art skills and techniques will be taught. Kate will also discuss different types and styles of art with the students.

The Middle Maniacs will learn basic art techniques, while developing their listening skills. Hopefully, their confidence in producing art and enjoying the artistic process will grow. We hope some of the participants will enjoy producing the art and learning the art techniques and will go home and try their hand at more art. We hope students will check out materials on how to draw, paint, or produce art. Anecdotal responses will be collected.
Middle School students learned basic art techniques such as blending, perspective, and using acrylics and tempera paints. Some of them began the project with little or no experience and were hesitant to put paint on the canvas. They became more confident as the lesson went on. Others had some experience and felt they could do a good job with Kate guiding them. There were about half boys and half girls so it was a good mix of students learning to plan their painting, practice on paper, and then put it on the canvas. The adults helped support the students' efforts and everyone walked away with a great, unique painting. Some of the students were interested in learning more about art.
