Attendee's learned more about Minnesota's role in the Civil War--specifically we learned that Minnesota's governor happened to be in Washington when the Civil War started & that he went directly to the White House to volunteer a regiment from Minnesota. We also learned how the regiment was formed and that the first person to volunteer to fight in the Civil War was from Minnesota. Doug shared with us stories of individuals of Minnesotans who fought in the Civil War. He not only talked about the Battles they were in but also where the person was from, what they did before the Civil War and their life after they returned. His power point included pictures of each individual along with photos of their gravestones. We also learned that many counties and communities were named after Minnesota Civil War soldiers. Doug shared with us his research mentions--newspapers, diaries and other sources that helped him put together a wonderful presentation filled with many interesting facts. Participants thoroughly enjoyed this presentation and many actively participated with questions and comments throughout the program. Several came up after this program and thanked Doug for sharing his knowledge.
