One County Read - Jeanne Cooney, Author
Redwood County libraries sponsored a One County Read. Jeanne Cooney, author of "A Potluck of Murder and Recipes," along with two previous books in the Hotdish Heaven Mystery series, came to the Wabasso Public Library to discuss her book and her life as a middle-aged female writer from rural Minnesota. She combines mystery, humor, and Minnesota hotdish in her series to offer a uniquely Minnesotan twist on the cozy mystery genre. Free copies of the book were procured for the general public to take and pass on to friends and fellow readers so as to generate a unified literary conversation across Redwood county.

These patrons will be looking to be entertained by the mystery in the books, while enjoying reading the same book as their neighbor. Patrons may learn about the writing process, how an author gets ideas, and how the author gets to the final product. Patrons will learn how others in the community feel about the book, about hotdish, and about mysteries, in general. Participant evaluations and anecdotal responses will be collected.
Patrons thoroughly enjoyed being entertained by the book and some read the other two books in the series as well. Jeanne was an entertaining and funny speaker and told stories and jokes about growing up in Minnesota and about Minnesota customs. She also shared her process for writing, publishing, and promoting her books. The audience participated in the discussion and asked many questions about the books, characters, and her writing.
