Proposed Measurable Outcome(s)

The audience will have an introduction to Mississippi Blues featuring the musical styles of zydeco, texmex, blues, old country, soul and hillbilly hoedown. We will hear stories behind the songs and instruments throughout the performance-giving us a deeper understanding of Mississippi Blues and the cultures that embrace this style of music. Following the performance participants will be allowed to take free harmonica lessons, sponsored by the Minnesota Blues Society, introducing them to a musical instrument not often played in our area.
Participants will see the library as a place that promotes musical programs that are fun and engaging for the entire family. Participant evaluations and anecdotal response will be collected.

Measurable Outcome(s)

Participants were introduced to new styles of music that broadened their appreciation for music in general and changed their attitude towards blues and hillbilly music. Participants learned about musical instruments such as accordion, washboard and harmonica. These are instruments that are not well known in the Midwest and this program broadened people's knowledge of the use of and sound of these instruments. Through the harmonica lesson, participants learned a new skill. Participants were given a good quality harmonica for their personal use, along with a music lesson and take home information to begin to play the instrument.
