Vetted Programs--A Touch of Magic
Emphasize the importance of performing arts in the local community. Increase access to the performing arts, enhancing audience comfort and confidence through clowns, comedy magic, and slapstick comedy. Encourage further education and attendance at future performing arts events. Reinforce the idea that libraries are places to experience cultural or arts programming.
Librarians were thrilled with their professionalism and how they would weave the importance of reading into their comedy routine. Several parents commented that their children have started asking to go to the library, even when there are no events. After one of the "Treasure Beyond Measure" shows, the librarian commented that no one wanted to learn any more about pirates, they were eager to head to the library to pick out more books about animals. Others wanted to learn how to pull "tricks" on people, like in the show. Mabel-Canton Schools enjoyed it so much in the fall that they invited them back in the spring. Northfield also took advantage of the Balloon Animal making workshop. The children loved it and are practicing the art further.
