Project Overview
Recognized for his crafty wit and skillful musicianship, Folk/Americana musician Dennis Warner captivates audiences in over 100 cities each year with his smooth vocals and six and twelve string guitars. Dennis has a show for kids and a show for adults. "Beads on One String" - Now in its fifth printing, Warner's popular book evolved from one of his songs and led to the creation of the Beads on One String Project, an elementary school curriculum being used throughout the country as a meaningful and fun way to teach kids about the negative effects of bullying and the positive effects of recognizing our "connectedness" with others. In support of his book and the curriculum project, Dennis is a popular guest musician and speaker at schools, libraries and Sunday morning gatherings. Adult Concert - Warner's latest CD, Seeds, became a hit on public radio, reaching #12 on the folk music charts worldwide. Along with his songwriting, Warner is widely admired for his moving interpretations of songs written by other artists. Fan favorites include his versions of Don't Laugh at Me, I'm My Own Grandpa and The Garden Song (Inch by Inch).

Proposed Measurable Outcome(s)

Educate children about bullies and bullying. Enhance musical enjoyment through age-appropriate song and dance. Increase access to educational and family-friendly music. Reinforce the idea that libraries are places to experience cultural or arts programming.

Measurable Outcome(s)

People liked the "great acoustics & sound system," "humor in the songs," "audience participation," "performer was entertaining, happy,& he enjoyed what he was doing." There were no suggestions for improvement. Teachers had discussed the books in the media center and the songs in music class before the performance. "Students were looking forward to Warner's program as if he were a rock star!" The kindergarten class understood and appreciated his anti-bullying message. They were eager to sing his songs, and were able to retell parts of the story of his book.
