Project Overview
Katie Knutson is a professional storyteller and teaching artist. Captivating audiences with her energetic storytelling style since 1994, Katie's programs engage children in their learning, encourage self-expression, teach character education, and foster a love of reading and telling stories. Passionate about bringing the arts to children, Katie spends her days working in schools using drama and storytelling to teach early literacy skills, writing, storytelling, science, character education, digital storytelling, and teamwork.

Proposed Measurable Outcome(s)

To enhance the future storytelling performance experience for participants through education. To increase access to storytelling, enhancing audience comfort and confidence with unfamiliar folk tales. To encourage further education and attendance at cultural events. To reinforce the idea that libraries are places to experience cultural or arts programming.

Measurable Outcome(s)

Kids were engaged during the whole performance and were eager to participate in the stories. After seeing Katie perform on stage, several children now want to learn how to tell stories. One parents came back to the library to tell about her child, who is usually very quiet, has been telling stories to her parents and sibling for over a week after the event. Another kindergartener told his whole class the "whole" story from the storyteller at sharing time.
