Project Overview
Pine Area People for the Arts hosted the acapella vocal group Six Appeal. On their website, Six Appeal describes themselves this way: "Swearing off instruments, Six Appeal uses acappella singing to span decades of classic oldies, current chart toppers, and catchy original tunes. Featuring vocal dexterity and adventurous song selection, the band explores all genres with a far-reaching repertoire that will surprise and captivate any audience regardless of the setting." Through this project, Six Appeal impacted Pine Island through three types of opportunities. During the school day, the group performed at an assembly for all students in grades 8-12, and then hosted two clinics with students involved in the 8-12 vocal music program. These opportunities were followed by an evening concert hosted at Pine Island Schools, which was open to the general public.

Proposed Measurable Outcome(s)

Three proposed outcomes: 1) Students who participate in the clinics will increase their vocal music skills such as critical listening, healthy vocal technique, intonation, and rhythm. 2) Individuals who attend the evening concert will have an increased appreciation for acapella music. 3) Individuals who attend the evening concert will view Pine Island as a community with an active music scene.

Measurable Outcome(s)

Outcome #1: Students who participate in the clinics will increase their vocal music skills such as critical listening, healthy vocal technique, intonation, and rhythm.
The responses received to this question demonstrate that this outcome was met. Selected responses include: I learned how well the human voice could mimic other sounds; I learned how to listen to the whole group and match the pitch.

Outcome #2: Individuals who attend the evening concert will have an increased appreciation for acapella music. 93% of respondents agreed that the concert met this outcome.

Outcome #3: Individuals who attend the evening concert will view Pine Island as a community with an active music scene. 83% of respondents agreed that the concert met this outcome.
