Project Overview
Gary Harbo is a children's book author and illustrator. He has authored and illustrated 23 books for children and most of his adventures are written in two versions--one for 2-6 year olds and another for 7-11 year olds. Gary has also written the book "How to Draw 104 Cartoons with Gary Harbo" and has brought 2 workshops to our region and initial art lesson teaching two-dimensional cartoon illustrations and an advanced art lesson teaching three-dimensional book illustration. Students often feel they cannot draw. These step-by-step art lessons show even the most skeptical of talents that drawing can be easy and fun. By breaking the illustration down into simple steps, children are able to successfully follow along and create a wonderful drawing. Students connect with this style of creativity and everyone has fun developing their very own character with unique personalities.

Proposed Measurable Outcome(s)

Enhance the future art experience for participants through education. Increase access to artists, enhancing audience comfort and confidence with creating art and new art styles. Encourage children to learn to create art. Encourage further education and attendance at future fine arts events. Reinforce the idea that libraries are places to experience cultural or arts programming.

Measurable Outcome(s)

Everyone was very enthusiastic about the program. Students commented how great it was to learn the mechanics of drawing, such as infinity points, shading techniques, and layering. One child was inspired to draw a story book. Another young child said he learned more about shapes and their uses in drawing. Many children want to learn how to learn realistic drawing now, and many more wanted to learn cartooning from Gary again.
