Community Collaboration--Everett Smithson Band Concert and Music Workshop
Foster an interest in cultural resources, and discovery of new artistic forms through dance and music. These activities take place as part of Zumbrota's heritage festival, which highlights Zumbrota's Covered Bridge--the only such bridge remaining in Minnesota and listed on the National Registry of Historic Places. The library is physically located near the bridge, and these activities will occur in sight of both the historical bridge and the library.
As the band played, people stopped by on their way from other festival activities to listen. Some attendees also participated in dance lessons, and several children stayed for harmonica lessons. Many comments were made about how festival attendees enjoyed the opportunity to listen to Zydeco music live, as it is not a form of music most are familiar with. Several attendees purchased CDs, an indicator of interest and exposure to new artistic forms.
