Project Overview
Having opened in October 2009, the Reptile & Amphibian Discovery Zoo is already one of the Midwest's largest reptile displays, and an opportunity for a fun family adventure. Through the Traveling Wildlife Program, The Reptile & Amphibian Discovery Zoo offers traveling wildlife programs where the zoo is brought on location. The highly informative, interactive programs feature a variety of fascinating reptiles and amphibians. The show provides an enjoyable experience for the audience, while instilling a greater understanding of these unique animals and the incredible lives they live. A typical program includes between ten and fifteen different kinds of fascinating reptiles and amphibians, which could include frogs, a salamander, turtles, lizards, snakes, and a small alligator. The show offers an opportunity for the audience to touch some of the animals in a controlled setting.

Proposed Measurable Outcome(s)

Emphasize the importance of wildlife affinity in your local community. Enhance the future outdoor experiences for participants through education. Increase access to various animal species, enhancing audience comfort and confidence with unfamiliar animals. Encourage further education and attendance at naturalist events. Reinforce the idea that libraries are places to experience cultural or arts programming.

Measurable Outcome(s)

Everyone at the Albert Lea programs wanted to learn more about the animals displayed, to see the show again with more animals, and check out books about the animals. In Houston, all indicated they were eager to learn more about the animals, and were delighted with the event, that they had learned something, and that they would attend another event at the library. Many said they would like to find books on how long these kind of reptiles live, where, and about other kinds of reptiles. Others said they are taking a family trip to the Zoo.
