Community Collaboration--Freeborn County--Glimpses of the Past
This photo PowerPoint presentation was held at the public library and provided a wide sampling of the collection of photographs. Attendees were surveyed to see if there were other topics that could be created for future presentations as library community outreach and a collaboration of our resources. This is a way to reach individuals that may not come to the museum library, but do frequent the public library.
A small group attended the first viewing at the museum but the conversation between the audience members was great. They shared memories of the businesses, buildings and locations that were shown in the PowerPoint. As a result of the survey and comments, the Freeborn County Historical Society plans to take current photos, when possible, of buildings and businesses that are still in existence, then show a past and present version. It will give a new dimension to presentations. The Freeborn County Historical Society believes the public will enjoy viewing the photos at the public library and it will give them a sampling of what is available here at the museum library. The second group that viewed the photo presentation was delighted to see photos of businesses and buildings that are no longer in existence as well as the construction of some large buildings in our community. All persons completing the survey said they enjoyed the presentation and would attend other presentations. Most of them were not aware of the vast collection of photographs that the museum has.
