Project Overview
An outside contractor was hired to research and develop a historic walking tour brochure of the historic downtown buildings as well as some special points of interest, information, old photos, current photos and also included some of the historic homes that are close to the downtown area. The brochure includes a map that shows the location of each place so even a stranger to town would be able to take the tour with ease. Buildings that are on the National Register of Historic Places are distinguished with a blue star by their description.

Proposed Measurable Outcome(s)

Community members and visitors will become engaged in learning about the community and take the tour as part of their experience of Albert Lea. It will also encourage local residents to get out and walk while learning about the historic downtown and the businesses that are currently housed in these beautiful buildings.

Measurable Outcome(s)

The members of the Star Craft Camper Group were not from town and found the tour easy to follow and enjoyed learning about the community. The Wind Down Wednesday audience was mostly local folks who enjoyed being able to learn about and recognize the rich history the downtown buildings have to offer. Comments have all been very positive and we will continue to search out opportunities to promote the brochure and locations to have them available. The brochure was completed in time for the Wind Down Wednesday Festival and was a great kick off to let the community know about the brochure.
