Community Collaboration--Fiddle Time: The Resurgence of Folk Fiddling
SEMYO seeks to educate the audience about fiddle music's role in history and the various genres which have developed in different cultures. The program is expected to have intergenerational appeal. SEMYO seeks to increase access to the arts for the community at large by providing free performances in a public venue. Audience members are expected to come away with knowledge and appreciation of this art form. To measure outcome goals, SEMYO will administer a brief survey to the audience after the presentation to collect demographic data and to gather feedback about their experiences. The data will be collected and reported after the event.
SEMYO's goal for these events was to educate audiences about fiddle music's role in history and its various genres, which is part of SEMYO's goal to expose the community of southeastern Minnesota to instrumental music. This free event increased access to the arts. Several participants indicated never having heard fiddle music. Survey respondents were asked if they wished to receive information about future SEMYO events. The majority of the other respondents indicated interest in email information. SEMYO will keep them informed about upcoming performances and educational opportunities, which will continue to increase access to the arts by connecting them with opportunities to attend as an audience member or to participate as students in SEMYO's summer music camp, Y Music Program, or orchestral ensembles. This connects to both SEMYO's goal to provide instrumental music to the community and to provide artistic growth opportunities to young musicians.
