Project Overview
Pop Wagner has a reputation as a singer, picker, fiddler, lasso twirler, poet and downright funny guy. He appeared quite frequently on Public Radio's A Prairie Home Companion during the show's formative years, and for the last four decades, he has worked his cowboy magic throughout 44 states and ten countries. His cowboy anthems crackle with the warmth of a prairie campfire and his old time fiddle tunes set toes a-tappin''' while he serves up spellbinding rope tricks and tall stories -- all with a good dose of friendly humor.

Proposed Measurable Outcome(s)

Emphasize the importance of country music in your local community.
Enhance the future country music performance experience for participants through education.
Increase access to country music, enhancing audience comfort and confidence with unfamiliar music styles.
Educate on parts of an older lifestyle in Minnesota and the surrounding region.
Encourage further education and attendance at future music and/or arts events.
Reinforce the idea that libraries are places to experience cultural or arts programming.

Measurable Outcome(s)

Participants rated the show 4.8 out of 5 for quality entertainment and seeing libraries as a cultural center for their community. Kids hadn't seen a real life cowboy before and loved his rope tricks. Adults liked the sing-a-longs. "It's refreshing to hear songs I knew" and liked his instruments, especially the one he made from a cedar shingle and broken chair. After the programs, students wanted to learn more about how to do rope tricks! Some wanted to learn more about cowboys and a few even wanted to learn more about playing the instruments.
