Project Overview
In phase four, The Freeborn County Historical Society continued to scan, label and index our collection of photographs. This phase focused on all remaining un-scanned photos which includes churches, homes, families, parades, street views, and many misc. subjects that will be of interest to many residents of all ages. The Albert Lea Library was the partner and was provided a sampling of the photos from this collection on CD's or a thumb drive that can be viewed at the public library by anyone wishing to view them. The photos were scanned using the same museum standards as the first three phases and scanned using a museum software called Past Perfect. 3000 photographs were scanned, logged, and identified in this phase, using museum standards and are saved on site as well as off site. The Albert Lea Public Library was given a flash drive with a power point sampling of the photos from this phase which the public can view at the public library.

Proposed Measurable Outcome(s)

This photo power point presentation will be held at the public library reaching the general public to provide a wide sampling of our collection of photographs. We will survey the attendees to see if there is an interest in certain areas that we might be able to do other presentations at the library as a community outreach and a collaboration of our resources. This will be a way to reach individuals that may not come to the museum library, but do frequent the public library.

Measurable Outcome(s)

The first viewing at the museum was a small group, but the conversation between the audience was great. They shared memories of the businesses, buildings and locations that were shown in the power point. As a result of the survey and comments, The Freeborn County Historical Society plans to take current photos, when possible, of buildings and businesses that are still in existence, then show a past and present version. It will give a new dimension to presentations. The Freeborn County Historical Society believes the public will enjoy viewing the photos at the public library and it will give them a sampling of what is available here at the museum library. The second group that viewed the photo presentation was delighted to see photos of businesses and buildings that are no longer in existence as well as the construction of some large buildings in our community. All surveys completed said they enjoyed the presentation and would attend other presentations. Most of them were not aware of the vast collection of photographs that the museum has.
