Community Collaboration – Bows, Bowlers & Bassoons; SEMYO’s Silent Movie Event
Audience members will learn about the genre of silent films as they have the opportunity to view two classic movies.
The audience will come away with knowledge and appreciation of this art form as well as the experience of hearing a live performance.
Highlights of what people learned from the program varied but included:
Everything in modern film is based on [silent films]; No minorities were depicted; Charlie Chaplin wrote and directed the films he made; Many silent film stars lost jobs after sound came to movies because they weren’t good talkers. Comments about the overall program included: “Thank you. It was excellent!” “Super good. Love the music by the orchestra,” and “Very funny. Good actors.”
