Great River Shakespeare Festival
Emphasize the importance of theatre in the local community. Enhance the future play going experience for participants. Increase access to theatre and the arts, enhancing audience comfort and confidence through the works of Shakespeare. Encourage further education and attendance at future theatrical events. Reinforce the idea that libraries are places to experience cultural or arts programming.
The Rochester Public Library program had 6 survey responses to the program. Between the respondents, the program was rated 4.8 out of 5 for overall quality and as enhancement of knowledge of stage combat. It was universally, strongly agreed that it was a fun learning experience. In terms of the library being more likely to be thought of as a place for cultural programming, the responses showed 4.5 out of 5. Comments related to the favorite part of the program included: “the choreographed fights,” “the presenter’s knowledge and energy,” and “the weapons and better combat antics.” Suggestions for improvement centered on expanding the program to include weaponry instead of just hand-to-hand combat.
