Project Overview
Marvel at the amazing creatures of the reptile and amphibian world including snakes, turtles, lizards, crocodilians, toads, frogs, and salamanders. The zoo is home to 100 kinds of animals from all over the world exhibited in naturalistic recreations of their native environments. The Reptile & Amphibian Discovery Zoo offers traveling wildlife programs where the zoo is brought to you. The highly informative, interactive programs feature a variety of fascinating reptiles and amphibians. The show provides an enjoyable experience for the audience, while instilling a greater understanding of these unique animals and the incredible lives they live. A typical program will include between ten and fifteen different kinds of fascinating reptiles and amphibians, which could include frogs, a salamander, turtles, lizards, snakes, and a small alligator. The show offers an opportunity for the audience to touch some of the animals in a controlled setting, after which hand sanitizer is provided.

Proposed Measurable Outcome(s)

Emphasize the importance of wildlife affinity in your local community. Enhance the future outdoor experiences for participants through education. Increase access to various animal species, enhancing audience comfort and confidence with unfamiliar animals. Encourage further education and attendance at naturalist events. Reinforce the idea that libraries are places to experience cultural or arts programming.

Measurable Outcome(s)

An opportunity to see and touch live reptiles and amphibians was a thrill for children and adults alike. One interviewee said, “I petted a big, nice snake and it was cold!” The overwhelming response from interviewees was that the event was very worthwhile and people were grateful that we provided the opportunity. It was also the first time for several families to see the inside of the county History Center. Many children left the program and went directly to the library to check out books on turtles and pythons, and other critters they ‘met’ at the show.
