Proposed Measurable Outcome(s)

Emphasize the importance of performing arts in local communities. Increase access to the performing arts, enhancing audience comfort and confidence through masks and puppetry.
Encourage further education and attendance at future theatrical events. Reinforce the idea that libraries are places to experience cultural or arts programming.

Measurable Outcome(s)

100% of the surveyed members said they had never made a mask before and had only bought them in the store before. The eagle mask was of particular interest to the participants because of the National Eagle Center in Wabasha; all the local children find relevance with the local bald eagle. Adults were impressed with how the instructor conveyed complex ideas and techniques to the children and, although they could not recreate everything, they adapted and transferred what they were learning to their own created masks. At the end of the event, everyone wanted to participate in more and higher level creative art projects. Everyone was interested in future library programs and other workshops and programs “In the Heart of the Beast” provides.
