Traditional Ojibwe Plants Herbs and Teas
Traditional Ojibwe Plants Herbs and Teas. The programs share ancestors' traditional knowledge of medical plants locally grown in North Central Minnesota. In each of the 10-minute programs, host Shontel Michaud of the Bear Clan, explores many topics including herbal preparations, health remedies, gardening herbs, gathering native Minnesota plants, all from the perspective of traditional Native American culture. Additionally, this project also offers Non-Native Americans the opportunity to learn and incorporate some aspects of Ojibwe culture into their lives and community life. This show covers a whole range of topics including: depression remedies, hair loss, and sinus infections, as well as healing plants found in swamps, bogs and wetlands. Traditional Ojibwe Plants, Herbs and Tea is a yearlong project.
$1,775,000 the first year and $1,700,00 the second year are to the Association of Minnesota Public Educational Radio Stations for production and acquisition grants in accordance with Minnesota Statutes section 129D.19.Of this amount, $75,000 the first year is for the Veterans' Voices program to educate and engage communities regarding veterans' contributions, knowledge, skills and experiences with an emphasis on Korean War veterans.
Increased interest in Native American culture through weekly programs targeting underserved audience in our listening area. A result of listening to this program will increase interest in the culture of Indians in Minnestoa. Survey of listeners will allow KOJB to determine the success of the educational aspects of the program.
