Project Overview

For this legacy project, the KMOJ family of personalities come together with listeners and community members to celebrate Juneteenth: the late notification that African American slaves were indeed free. The celebration event will take place at a park in North Minneapolis and will feature a parade, food, venders, and scheduled performances by popular local musicians.? KMOJ will broadcast portions of the celebration on-air throughout the day.? In addition, KMOJ produced a pilot show for LOL: Live on Location as part of Rondo Days in July of 2019.

Appropriation Language

$1,775,000 the first year and $1,700,00 the second year are to the Association of Minnesota Public Educational Radio Stations for production and acquisition grants in accordance with Minnesota Statutes section 129D.19.Of this amount, $75,000 the first year is for the Veterans' Voices program to educate and engage communities regarding veterans' contributions, knowledge, skills and experiences with an emphasis on Korean War veterans.

Proposed Measurable Outcome(s)

More Minnesotans will have an increased knowledge and awarenes of the day African American slaves were freed. This event will restult in an increase in locally produced content by public media. This event is free and will increase the number of Minneostans of all ages, ethnicities, abilities, and incomes exposure to Minnesota's history of slavery as well as increasing their exposure to arts and culture.
