Project Overview

This project explores non-traditional, or alternative sports that are fast becoming a part of the North Shore culture. These activities include overnight paddle boarding, rock climbing, ice skating, surfing and expedition sea kayaking. The series will highlight where, how and why people are choosing to participate in these forms of outdoor recreation. Long recognized as a canoeing mecca with the Boundary Waters at the doorstep of Cook County, these new alternative means of outdoor recreation are bringing a new generation and culture to our region.
