Ogichida Voices Season Two-WGZS
WGZS will partner with Ampers to create Ogichida Voices Season Two also known as Fond du Lac's Ogichida Voices. We will produce twenty 90-second segments, featuring the stories and memories of different members of the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa who served in the military. The series will recognize and honor the knowledge, experience, and leadership of Native veterans, from their own perspective and in their own voice. Native Americans have had and continue to have the highest number of members in the U.S. military per capita of any cultural group.
$1,775,000 the first year and $1,700,00 the second year are to the Association of Minnesota Public Educational Radio Stations for production and acquisition grants in accordance with Minnesota Statutes section 129D.19.Of this amount, $75,000 the first year is for the Veterans' Voices program to educate and engage communities regarding veterans' contributions, knowledge, skills and experiences with an emphasis on Korean War veterans.
This project will result in an increase in locally and Minnesota-focused content produced by public radio. Minnesota will have a better understanding of the role that Native American Veterans played in our history. More Minnesotans of all ages, ethnicities and incomes will have increased access to Minnesota history.
