Washington County Library sponsored a workshop provided by the Minnesota Center for the Book Arts staff on bookbinding for youth of all ages during the 2010 Children's Book Week. Topic include pop-up books, flag books, petal books, etc.

Children’s Book Week,
Book Making Workshops for Kids: Artists from the MN Center for Book Arts hosted book-binding/making workshops for children at all nine of our branch libraries to celebrate Children’s Book Week. Each workshop focused on a different type of book binding project such as popup books, petal books, and accordion style books. Participants learned the art and technique of book arts and took a finished piece of art home with them. Dates, locations and attendance were as follows:
May 11, 2010 - Newport Library @3 pm : 51 children/18 adults
May 12, 2010 - Marine Library @ 4pm: 5 children
May 13, 2010 - Lake Elmo Library @ 4pm : 5 children/5 adults
May 14, 2010 - Valley Branch; Lakeland @10:30 am : 7 children/4 adults
May 15, 2010 - Oakdale Branch @ 10 am : 12 children/6 adults
May 15, 2010 - Hardwood Creek Branch; Forest Lake @ 3:30 : 8 children/3 adults
May 15, 2010 - Wildwood Branch; Mahtomedi @ 1pm : 7 children/1 adult
May 16, 2010 - RH Stafford Branch; Woodbury @ 1:00 pm : 8 children/4 adults
May 16, 2010 - Park Grove Branch; Cottage Grove @ 3:30 : 10 children/0 adults

Measurable Outcome(s)

Children learn to think creatively about books, text and images through the art of bookmaking. Children are encouraged to add story/narrative to their books. Participants learn print awareness, print motivation and narrative skills
