Quiet on the Set: Filmmaking Competition Workshops
Legacy funds were used to expand MELSA’s second annual Quiet on the Set filmmaking competition. Filmmakers were required to use a MELSA library and a library card in their short five-minute film. To assist filmmakers of varying experience, 13 filmmaking workshops were held at MELSA libraries. Workshops covered beginning filmmaking for kids age 12 and under, an introductory workshop for teens and an advanced filmmaking program for adults. The teen workshops were the most popular.
Chris Mick from 355 Productions led the workshops. Chris has taught television production at college and high school campuses and has been involved in organizing and judging film competitions.
Workshop participants learned everything they need to know to produce a high-quality short film – starting with how to come up with ideas for a short film, plus tips and resources for key elements of filmmaking: actors, sound, lighting, locations, music, extras, props, costume, equipment, shooting schedules and editing.
