Project Overview

Twin-Cities area public libraries host free screenings of films from the award-winning tpt series Independent Lens as part of its national engagement program, Community Cinema. Community Cinema pairs independent films with lively panel discussions featuring local experts and community leaders and moderated by hosts from tpt.

Tpt hosts included Cathy Wurzer, Mary LaHammer and David Gillette

Libraries, museums and colleges throughout the U.S. host Community Cinema screenings and conversations focused on contemporary issues. This spring MELSA engaged audiences at libraries throughout the area on topics such as autism, the global food crisis, the devastation of Hurricane Katrina and the inspiring story of older performing artists. Panelists were recruited from the Institute for Agricultural Trade Policy, Eureka Recycling, the Autism Society of Minnesota, St. Paul Public School Early Childhood Special Education, We can Ride, Center for Hmong Arts and Talent, Asian Americans/Pacific Islanders in Philanthropy, Kairos Dance Theater and Story Theater.
