Project Overview
Act Out: Theater classes for all ages, with a variety of topics: creative movement, storymaking, storytelling, playmaking, acting games, musical theater, stage combat, play reading, and voice and speech. Playing Around with Theater: Preparation for 3 fall 8-week workshops called Playing Around with Theater presented by COMPAS teaching artist May Lee-Yang. In those fall workshops, participants will play theater games, do improv, learn about creating characters and learn the components of creating an original performance piece, culminating in a celebration performance of the piece at the hosting library and open friends, family and community members. Summer preparation activities will include purchase of workshop supplies and purchase of supporting collection materials.

Act Out: 15 classes offered June - Aug 2016. Participants will learn more about theater and acting. Patrons will have the opportunity for patrons to try out acting. Related materials circulation will increase. Playing around with Theater: Purchase of workshop supplies and purchase of supporting collection materials for fall workshops.

For Act Out for Kids: 90% of kids tried acting. 67% know more about theater and acting. 37% will check out related library materials. 92% liked the program. Selected comments: “Fun Program! Awesome instructor. Little siblings had fun & came out of their shells.” “It was awesome!!! I want to do it again.”

For Act Out for Teens: 97% of teens tried acting. 81% know more about acting or dance. 19% have or plan to check out related library materials. 100% rated the quality of the program as good or better. Selected comments: “It was a blast, learned a lot." “It was vigorous, the leader was great.”

For Act Out for Adults: 100% had the opportunity to try acting, play reading, dance or voice projection. 100% know more about the topic.
71% have or plan to check out related library materials. 100% rated the quality of the program as good or better. Selected comments:

For Playing Around with Theater: Workshop supplies and collection materials were purchased for fall workshops.
