Project Overview
First Pages writing classes for youth and adults. Topics include: nonfiction, e-Publishing, poetry, getting published, editing, memoirs, and more. Next Chapter Book Clubs allow people with developmental disabilities to participate in a book club. Groups of 8-12 participants meet with trained book club facilitators to read aloud (receiving as much support as needed) and discuss a book for 1 to 2 hours at a time.

For First Pages: attendees will learn new writing skills, attendees will be encouraged to continue their writing, will check out related materials from the library. For Next Chapter Book Clubs: Books will be purchased to support book clubs starting in summer 2016.

Measurable Outcome(s)

For First Pages: 95% of adults and 100% of teens received encouragement to continue their writing. 95% of adults and 100% of teens learned a new tool to improve their writing skills or process. 78% of adults and 56% of teens have or plan to check out library materials about writing. 99% of adults and 90% of teens rated the quality of the program good or better. Selected comments: “Exciting workshop. I feel inspired to write. Thank you for offering this class!” “I enjoyed the class very much. Writing is a new subject I haven’t thought much about since early school years. Now I feel like I would like to try writing as I believe I have a story to tell.” For Next Chapter Book Clubs: Books were purchased to support book clubs starting in Summer 2016.
