History and Memories of Little Golden Books
As 2017 is the 75th anniversary of Little Golden Books, Pioneerland engaged the services of local "Little Golden Books" hobbyist and collector Ellen Radel for presentations around our region. Ellen presented at 17 PLS libraries on the history and memories of Little Golden Books over the last 75 years, including how the concept began, developed, and changed over the decades. Included were stories of some of the most prolific author and illustrators, many of whom were very talented women. This program was geared towards adults.

Attendees to the Little Golden Books programs will be positively reacquainted with these books, and the memories they have of these iconic publications from their childhood. They will learn about the history of this entirely new (at the time) genre of children's literature, exclusive to America that began when these books were born in 1942.
Attendees comments after attending these presentations include: "I enjoyed everything about this program. The presenter's love of the Golden Books came through. This brought back a lot of early childhood memories." "This program reinforced the value of reading to children." "This was so informative. I had no idea there were so many Little Golden Books. They are always delightful." "Learned the history about the beginning of Golden Books in 1942. The information about the authors and illustrators was fascinating." "It was great to hear about something close to my heart from childhood."
