Camp Read-a-Lot
Camp Read-a-Lot is a conference designed for librarians and teachers focusing on reading and evaluating newer children's literature. At this two day event, "campers" come together to discuss the books and hear presentations by noted Minnesota authors. Camp Read 2017 featured Minnesota authors Alison McGhee, and Pete Hautman. This program is a multi-regional program in partnership with Pioneerland Library System, Plum Creek Library System, and SAMMIE.

Campers' will be exposed to children's literature that is new or recently published. In completing the assigned reading, each camper will have a new understanding of reading material they may not have been previously familiar with. This years Camp will feature books for grades 2-5 on Day 1, and grades 6-12 on day 2. In addition, Campers will have the opportunity to interact with noted Minnesota authors while earning continuing education credits, if desired, for participation in Camp Read.

The authors who presented were excellent and both presented morning and afternoon talks with a structured lecture in the mornings, and a relaxed question and answer session in the afternoon. 50 attendee evaluations were returned, with all Campers stating that this event either met or exceeded their expectations, and 49 stating they would attend Camp Read again, and recommend it to others. Participant comments include: 'Loved the discussions & activities - wouldn't change a thing.' 'It was wonderful to meet with others and share about books!'
