Cary J. Griffith is a Minnesota author who wrote a book about two hikers who got lost in the dense forest in northern Minnesota. Attendees will hear about survival skills used and the search/rescue operation. In addition, Cary's latest book on the Ham Lake fire, at the time the most destructive wildfire in modern Minnesota history, will leave attendees with knowledge regarding the blaze, the firefighters battle, and the human toll of this important Minnesota historical event.
Attendees enjoyed the history the author shared regarding the Ham Lake fire, and the survival stories. They learned about the well-marked, marked, and the barely marked trails of the Gunflint Tail, the cost of the fire (tremendous), and that individuals are responsible for damages if they started the fire. Comments include: Learned a lot about the forest and how to survive, and the history of the fires.' 'Author was very personable. Told the stories very well and had great pictures to go with his talk.' 'Wonderful information on the Boundary Waters and Gunflint Trail. I've been up on North Shore many time but never drove Gunflint Trail...now I will for sure.'
