Participants will learn about the Mississippi River as a main transportation system in the early 1850's - and about the land close to the river producing towns and trading posts from the Twin Cities south through Minnesota. The scenic yet resourceful Mississippi continues to provide Minnesotans with the natural beauty of the land in the fall season.
The boat cruise on the Mississippi River was excellent. Attendees heard a narrative of historical facts and stories of the use of the Mississippi River in early 1800-1860's: transporting supplies and goods to and from the outposts along the river; as towns developed the river continued to be an important waterway. Participant comments included appreciation for new knowledge gained about the river, it's history, and stories. Also, appreciation for the transportation provided as many folks would not have the chance to see these things without the legacy tours as they are not able or willing to drive.
