Proposed Measurable Outcome(s)

This is an area of interest in this community as there were tuberculosis facilities nearby and many people know of someone who was impacted by this disease. The topic of this book is still relevant as Krugerud states "Preventing disease from sweeping through homeless and prison populations, educating contagious children, and managing immigrant health are all timely issues today, as they were in the 1920s."

Measurable Outcome(s)

Attendees gained a new knowledge of the history of tuberculosis and its impact on the history/culture of Minnesota, as well as an appreciation of the effort people throughout Minnesota made to treat and curb the disease. Comments include: 'It was interesting to see how the sanatoriums impacted the local communities.' 'Impressive research on the part of the author!' ' Brought back memories of TB actions from when I was in school.' ' Very interesting and informative. This wasn't talked about much when I was young, maybe because of the sexual connotations, I don't know. I was in high school in the 60s and a classmates father was at the facility in Granite Falls. It was almost hushed up at the time.' 'This presentation changed my mind about sanatoriums and offered a historical perspective, as well as a look into the future.'
