Talking Strings: The Story of Gypsy Music
In this exciting, energetic and interactive program, learn about the history and evolution of Gypsy music, and about a variety of musical instruments played by Romany musicians in various regions across Europe and around the globe.

We distributed evaluation forms to patrons after the program. We hoped that participants would increase their understanding of Romani history and culture, and that they would be exposed to new instruments and music styles.
66% of respondents said that after watching this program they have increased their understanding of the history and evolution of Romani culture. 64% said that they enjoyed this program because it helped them to increase their knowledge and better understand a topic. 60% agreed that this program increased their interest in Romani music and/or the string instruments featured in this program. 67% responded that they would attend a similar program in the future. Public comments included, 'at first I didn't even know what Romani music was, I like it now,' and, 'great music, educational commentary.'
In Hallock the use of City Hall was provided free of charge, and volunteers helped clean up after the event. In Greenbush the school hosted the program, and the Friends group helped throughout the event.
