Project Overview

Jen Anfinson, a local artist, offers a number of classes and workshops, each focusing on a different theme, like jewelry making, henna tattooing, or calligraphy. Jen did six programs for us, five of them henna workshops, and one focusing on jewelry techniques for nature finds. Each 90 minute workshop was interactive- Jen brought the supplies and taught participants her techniques, and helped them to create something beautiful of their own. These workshops were very popular, and we have requests from patrons and librarians to bring back different programs. Everyone learned a lot and was able to learn a different kind of art.

Proposed Measurable Outcome(s)

We hoped that participants would learn something new about their respective art form, and that their interest in the subject matter would increase. With these programs, we wanted to offer an artistic workshop that typically is not available in this area. We wanted patrons to experience and be exposed to something new. We distribute evaluation forms after every program, and collect public comments.

Measurable Outcome(s)

100% of respondents said that they learned something new after this program, and that their understanding and appreciation for this art form increased. 87% said that they enjoyed this program because they were able to learn a new skill, 73% replied that their were able to increase their knowledge and better understand this topic, and 56% said they were able to spend quality time with friends and family. 95% said that their interest in the topic was increased after this program, and 98% said that they would come to a similar program in the future if it were offered. One librarian commented that, "artistic workshops are very popular in our rural community. The library is the only place activities like this take place and introduce patrons to different ideas." Public comments included, "This was a lovely way to spend part of an evening; it brought so much appreciation for creativity, history, culture, and a slower pace of life. Thank you!!"
