Project Overview
In this lyric-writing workshop, Brian will begin to answer the question "Where do songs come from?" and continue with the different ways to gather musical inspiration from our day-to-day lives. The workshop will include time for supervised writing of new material, feedback on students’ existing work, and a Q&A about songwriting practice and craft.

Proposed Measurable Outcome(s)

The intended outcome is to inspire attendees to read, express themselves creatively, and or /explore poetry with a Minnesota poet. A survey was distributed to receive feedback from those attending the programs.

Measurable Outcome(s)

Surveys were distributed to participants at all programs. 79% strongly agreed that this was an enjoyable experience and 67% strongly agreed that they would attend a similar event. 18 of those attending had never attended a library program before. Comments: This helped me think of songwriting in a new way and it definitely will improve my music and poetry skills. We had a mini field trip to the river to embrace the impact of inspiration all around us in songwriting.

Source of Additional Funds

15 libraries provided space (two partnered for a program to held at a school), staff, and additional promotion for the programs and approximately 12 regional newspapers provided marketing through press releases, photos and interviews with artists and performers.
