The Duluth Playhouse Presents the Boogers in the Yard Bizarre
The intended outcome of the program is to stimulate patron imagination and creativity. It will educate kids about being brave, facing adversity, being a good friend and working together. It will also expose patrons to new art formats. It will also create access to professional live art (music and theatre). Live art is dynamic; patrons can experience and be inspired by the energy that comes from a live performance.
Surveys were distributed to participants at all programs. 99% agreed that this was an enjoyable experience and 89% agreed that they would attend a similar event. Participants (especially the children) liked it when the play included poems they had been studying, the reminder to be a kid and play using your imagination not technology, and the encouragement to try poetry and creativity. Participants learned "that poems are fun and you should make one", poetry can be fun, imagination is limitless, and how to have fun playing with words. One student said this program was "an inspiration to young actresses and actors in theater" and a teacher noted that "kids learned that they can turn the TV off and get reading and use their imagination".
