Project Overview
Are you ready for a 1,555 mile hike around Lake Superior? If not, join Mike and Kate as they describe their shore-hugging journey around the world’s largest freshwater lake. As naturalists, travel writers and grandparents, they chronicle an epic five-month Lake Superior hike through Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan and Ontario in this life-altering experience. If you still have some energy left, they will continue the discussion with their next adventure – The Full Length Mississippi. Kate and Mike have already driven the length of the Mississippi and plan to boat along the upper portion of the river and then follow the annual bird migration.

Proposed Measurable Outcome(s)

Measurable Outcome(s)

Surveys were distributed to participants at all programs. 86% strongly agreed that this was an enjoyable experience and that they would attend a similar event. Participants liked the experiences shared by the author, the balance of writing and trip information, and the courage of these very engaging folks to undertake this at this mature state of their lives. Participants learned about the shoreline and lighthouses along Lake Superior, the environment, flora, & fauna and how we need to cherish and preserve our water quality. Specific comments included "thank you for sharing your adventure" and "thanks to the cultural heritage fund'.
