Project Overview
Skullduggery is a program with a pirate theme. Books, reading and magic are shared through the use of the life and times of story book pirates. Captain Robert takes the children on an adventure in search of buried treasure. Dark tales is interactive theatre at its best. Dark Tales consists of the weird and strange happenings and is shared through books. This particular program appeals to middle school students and motivates them to read different styles of books. The program, Professor Marvel's Dream Machines, encourages the use of books to inspire children to dream about possibilities. The program uses magic, imagination, storytelling, and the use of books to explore their own creativity.

Date(s) of Program: Two (2) programs on April 27, 2012, Clara City and Maynard. One (1) program on April 28, 2012, Montevideo Public Library. One (1) program on June 15, 2012, Bird Island Public Library. Attendance total for all four (4) programs: 465 children and adults

To encourage reading and the use imagination through entertainment. The programs create interest in seeking out topics for children of all ages to explore.

Measurable Outcome(s)

Thirty (30) students were asked if they had ever attended a library program and twenty (20) responded they had; at the end of the program the children were asked if they would attend another library program and all thirty (30) replied that they would definitely. Ten (10) adults completed evaluations. Nine (9) of ten (10) adults indicated they would definitely attend another library program. Prior to the program, the children were asked if they had ever checked out a book about magic before and twenty-seven (27) indicated they had taken out a book on magic. After the program the question was asked again and all thirty (30) children responded they planned on taking out a book on magic. Adults were asked "How would you rate the program?" Of the ten (10) evaluations completed by the adults, six (6) responded the program was "Great," two (2) responded it was "Very Good," and two (2) responded the program was "Average." The responses were 100% positive. What was enjoyed most about the program: "Audience interaction (encouragement to the kids to read books). The magic tricks were great!" "The participation of all the kids." What was learned from this program? "Reading is important." "I liked the idea of the reading put with the magic to show how neat books are. Also his enthusiasm." What did people think about this program? "Great job. Students enjoyed it!" "Fun program for all ages."
