Doug Ohman, a photographer of Minnesota's historic barns, churches, schoolhouses, courthouses, libraries, cabins, Minnesota State Parks, prairies, lakes and forests, shares the personal stories of the people who lived and worked within the buildings and on the land.

Date(s) of Program: Four (4) programs held: April 12, 2012 at Olivia Public Library, April 14, 2012 at Hector Public Library; April 23, 2012 at Granite Falls MN; April 24, 2012 at Willmar Public Library. The attendance for the 4 programs: 81 adults

Proposed Measurable Outcome(s)

Attendees will learn about the personal and cultural historical background of many buildings and land of Minnesota. Attendees will be able to learn about the state of Minnesota through the means of photographs and from a well-established Minnesota researcher.

Measurable Outcome(s)

Evaluations completed: 43. Of the 43 attendees who responded on evaluations, 40 said "Yes, they would attend another program" and 3 commented "Maybe they would attend another program, depending on the topics." A 100% positive response. The question How would you rate the program? was asked. Answers could be selected from "Great, Very Good, Average, Below Average, and Poor." Of the 43 responses, 34 responded as "Great," 8 responded as "Very Good," and 1 responded as "Average." A 100% positive response to the question. Responses to the question What did you enjoy most about this program? "The pictures were great – having stories to go with them was really interesting." "How the pictures rekindled my own memories." "Masterful combination of history with subject matter. Especially barns and libraries. "Everything, and seeing pictures of (the) family barn." "History of the different types of barns, very good photography." What was learned from attending this program?: "Different types of barns & culture in general." "Sadly, barns are disappearing from the landscape." "More about the history of farming & barns – great photography, of course." "Information on barns & schoolhouses that I wasn't aware of before." "All about buildings, institutions; people of MN in historical context." "There is still one 1-room schoolhouse in Minnesota." Thoughts about the program: "Great to have a program like this in Hector." "An excellent way to explore Minnesota!" "Minnesota taxpayers get a big bang for the buck!" Pioneerland Library System and Hector Public Library, Friends of the Hector Public Library, Hector Community Center, Granite Falls Public Library, Granite Falls Ladies Tuesday Study Club, Granite Falls Arts Council, Willmar Public Library, Olivia Public Library, Minnesota Legacy Grant. Partner Organization Contribution/Role in the Program: The libraries of Hector, Granite Falls, Olivia and Willmar contacted and set-up their individual programs, and promoted their individual programs. Friends of the Hector Public Library provided refreshments; Hector Community Center provided the location for the program. Granite Falls Ladies Tuesday Study Club and Arts Council provided refreshments. Minnesota Legacy Grant provided the funding for the 3 programs.
