For children to learn the process of illustrating a book, to watch and learn from an artist, and to be encouraged to enjoy the imagination of art.
Evaluations Completed: 18 Adults, 24 Evaluations completed on behalf of 446 children. From the 18 adult evaluations completed: The question "How would you rate the program?" was asked, with options for rating the program. The rating scale consisted of "Great, Very Good, Average, Below Average and Poor." Great: 13 Very Good: 5 A unanimous positive response. // The question "Would you attend another program of this kind if it were offered?" was asked. Yes: 18 No: 0 Maybe: 0 A unanimous positive response. // From the children's surveys: "How many kids have seen a program at the library before?" 244 indicated they had attended a program previously / "How many kids would come back to the library for another program?" 392 children said they would return for another program / "How many kids have checked out books about drawing before?" 248 indicated they had previously checked out books on drawing / "How many kids want to check out a book about drawing now to learn more about it?" 259 indicated they now would check out books on drawing // Comments from the adult evaluations: The question "What did you enjoy most about this program?" responses included: "Seeing the process an illustrator goes through to get to the final product." "It was easier to understand the process in illustrating having the steps pointed out." "The illustrator's personal stories & how he re-draws until he likes the picture." "Watching the student interest and enthusiasm for the topic!" / The question "What did you learn from attending this program? "The book publishing process." "If you want to be an artist; draw, draw, draw. . . sketching is basically a series of simple shapes." "How long it takes to draw pictures & then for a book to be published." Pioneerland Library System and Bird Island Public Library, Olivia Public Library, Renville Public Library, and BOLD Elementary School; Hector Public Library and BLHS Elementary School; Fairfax Public Library and GFW Elementary School. Partner Organization Contribution/Role in the Program: The Bird Island, Fairfax, Olivia, Renville and Hector Public Libraries arranged for the program, promoted the program, and arranged with the Public Schools as to the ages of the students involved and the space needed. The Public Schools promoted the program, determined the student ages and classes, and provided the space. Programs were also held at Renville, Fairfax and Olivia schools.
